Thank you to everyone who supported the Branch Dinner and Practice last evening. I think we'd all agree that we had a useful practice beforehand and then enjoyed a very tasty meal together which was well cooked and presented. A most sociable and enjoyable occasion.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the AGM at Stewkley next month; and some of you at the 'Advanced' Practice at Winslow on 28th at 19:00.
At Shrivenham, down in Wiltshire, yesterday morning our CBB team did us proud in the Guild 10-bell competition. Andrew Haseldine and his team rang a very good piece of Grandsire Caters and were placed 3rd by a minute margin. There was some controversy around this with several comments being made by other ringers there that they actually deserved a higher placing. As the team had not actually managed to have a practice together as a team this shows how well they did. Thank you, Andrew, for taking this on. CBB are a force to be reckoned with! The top three results were: 1st East Berks & Sth Bucks 89% 2nd Reading 84% 3rd CBB 83%
The November midweek ring will be on Tuesday 8th, Woodstock, 8, 10:15 to 11:00, confirmed Kidlington, 8, 11:15 to 12:00, confirmed Lunch probably in Bicester Bicester, 10, 2:00 to 2:45, this tower still to confirm.
Sadly, I have to report the passing of one of our ringers from Long Crendon. Richard Markham was a ringer who learnt the art later in life, and as such did not progress to method ringing. He was a very good striker of his bell and would always enjoy well struck call changes. He was a very dedicated member of our band and would always be ready and waiting to ring for Sunday morning service. He will be sadly missed. Andrew Haseldine
It is with sadness that I write to inform everyone of the recent death of Georgina Carpenter. She was from Whitchurch, one of triplets, and learned to ring with her two sisters Clare and Edwina, learning much from George Edmonds and Maurice Jamieson of Great Horwood.
Five teams took part in an enjoyable afternoon's competition at East Claydon earlier today - and the rain held off! CBB was represented by Aylesbury, Drayton Parslow and Wing. Chiltern Branch by Aston Clinton and Little Missenden. Well done to all who got a team together to take part. Our judge, John Pusey from Oxford, gave us a full explanation of how he had achieved his results and made some encouraging and constructive comments regarding the ringing - a big 'thank you' to him. A lovely tea, produced by our own 'Masterchef' Jan Robinson was demolished by all in record time - those cheese scones were to die for...not to mention the chocolate cake, lemon cake, banana cake...I could go on!! A huge thank you to her, also to Jane Vowles, East Claydon ringers and other Branch members who all helped out - don't we have a great team spirit in our Branch. Special mention must be made of Ted, Jan's husband, too. Although a non-ringer he is a more regular attender at meetings etc than some of our own members, supporting Jan and helping out with the practicalities. Today he ably assisted the judge with timings and recording of the various performances, so special thanks to him. So...here are the results: 1st Aylesbury with 12.5 faults 2nd Aston Clinton with 14.5 faults 3rd Little Missenden with 25 faults 4th Wing with 39.5 faults 5th Drayton Parslow with 49 faults
All the teams rang something different from the others and no-one tackled call-changes this year. It was good to welcome Drayton Parslow to the competition. Great progress by the band and a great 'can do' approach under the leadership of Lynne Pughe. A band to watch in the future. As you can see , Aylesbury won by a narrow margin - enough to retain the Cup for CBB though! Hooray! Well done to them. How many years is that Mike??
